A CONSIDERATION: ISLAM = BUDDHA? (3)

Muhammad in Buddha Scriptures

1. From the aspect of “Maitreya name”
(Continuation from 10/ 15 / 2006)

The question is what is the Maitreya actually? For this question we can see the statement as follows:

§ The word of “Maitreya” is in Sanskrit language or “Matteya” in Pali language that brought the meaning of love, peaceful and kind full. It’s too mean as friendly and kind full person. The Arabic word that carries the same meaning is “Rahmat”, Al-Qur’an in surah Al-Anbiya 21: 107 which mean:
We sent thee not, but as a mercy for all creatures.

§ The prophet of Muhammad was called with the name of “who was poses of loving character” or rahmat. This meant its same with the meaning of the word of “Maitreya”. The fact is the word of merciful and “who poses a loving character” had been said for 409 times in Al-Qur’an.

The words of Muhammad too were spell as “Mahamet” or “Mahomet” or with various spell in others language. “Maha” in Pali and “Maho” in Sanskrit brought the meaning of so kind full or so great, so pure, and so famous. The meaning of “Metta” is so merciful. Then, when this word had mixed it will become the word of “Mahamet” or “Mahomet” that was mean “The Great Merciful”.

2. From its teaching scope:

The thought of Buddha is for all level of society. Followed to the book of Secred Books of the East, Volume 2, and page 36, Maha Parinibbana Sutta Chapter 2: 32 have been said that Buddha was said with this mean:
I have given the truth of whole religion to all level of society. O Ananda, one Thatagata not hide any truth but he will separate or teach a whole of that religion.

Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. was ordered by Allah s.w.t to spread the whole of Islam thought to all level of human society in this world without hiding the truth of Islam itself. The Prophet was give a warning to the people who hiding the thought of Islam. even the al-Qur’an today can read by all people who want to read it.

It is a historical fact that Islam is more laxed on the idea of killing. Islam does outline certain criteria whereby killing of the enemy is allowed for self defence and Muhammad himself participated in warfares.

The Buddhas in contrast, never participated nor would allow such thing to be carried out. The harming of other beings is anti thesis to the value of Metta, universal love.

The Karaniya Metta Sutta sums it all in this phrase 'Mata yata niyam puttam ayusa ekaputta manurakkhe, Evam pi sabba bhutesu manasam bhava ye aparimanam'

'As a mother would protect her only child with her life, in the same way one should regard all beings'
